Hempcrete is a tried and tested building material that had been used throughout the world for centuries. It is a mixture of lime and hemp and is used as an insulating filling for masonry walls. The lime and Hemp combination together forms a structure that is:

  • Fire-resistant
  • Rodent-proof
  • Termite/white ant proof (termites are a huge problem in Western Australia).

Hempcrete is not used as a structural material as such but when used on houses with timber or metal frames is creates a lot of strength and support within the structure. The insulation values of hempcrete are mind blowing. The recommended R rating for a house in Australia has been raised over the past year with traditional buildings not meeting the code having to use unsustainable resources to raise the levels of insulation.

R values on a finished hemp house walls and ceiling are triple that of the newly set Australian standards. In fact, hempcrete provides such brilliant insulation that air-conditioners could be made redundant and the savings you will see on your ever growing power bills will go down!

Hempcrete is an environmentally sustainable product. Here at MEK Plastering our aim is to create happy and healthy homes for people who care about their families and friends as much as we care about ours.

MEK Plastering is very excited to be the first company in WA to be using this amazing material. We see hempcrete as the answer to a lot of issues facing the building industry today and know that with all the benefits it holds you will to.
